2. EDWARD MCDERMIT2 STOKES (ALLEN1)16 was born July 19, 1847 in Star City, Lincoln County, Arkansas, and died February 13, 1917 in Burnett, Arkansas (Brummitt, Arkansas). He married NANCY ANN DERRICK September 18, 1872 in Lincoln County, Arkansas, daughter of JAMES DERRICK and SARAH GRIFFIN.

DWARD MCDERMIT STOKES:
Edward McDurmett Stokes was born near Birmingham, Alabama on July 19, 1847. He married Nancy Ann Derrick September 18, 1872 in Lincoln County, Arkansas. Edward M. Stokes joined the Confederate Army near the end of the war. He was a farmer, but liked to fish and hunt and he kept a pack of deer and bear hounds. He farmed near Greenmount in Lincoln County, Arkansas until the death of his wife, Nancy. He moved to Texas (Uvalde) and lived until 1910, when he injured a hip. He then reportedly returned to Arkansas and lived with his son, James Allen Stokes, on the the Sorrels Ferry Road, east of Star City, Arkansas. Edward McDurmett Stokes is reported to be buried at Brummitt, Arkansas.

ANCY ANN DERRICK:
According to Shelby Box, the Derrick family may have lived in Choctaw County, Mississippi at one time.
Nancy Ann Derrick Stokes is reported to be buried in the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, in the Butler Community, near Star City, Arkansas. However, a search by John & Mary Stokes on January 1, 1999 found no trace of her grave. Also, a search of the Butler Cemetery Record did not mention her grave.

Directions to Pleasant Hill Cemetery:
- South from Star City on HIghwy 425
- Left on Highway 29 (just past Highway 293)
- At the time of this writing (1/1/99), Highway 29 had an upward slope from Highway 425 and was located next to the Byerly Mechanic Shop
- Follow Highway 29 until it dead ends
- Turn left and follow approximately 1/4 mile to the cemetery on the left.
