"Died Tuesday Morning, March 18, of Intermitten fever, after a protracted illness of several weeks, at the residence of his son A. C. Constant, in Dawson, Jacob Constant, Sr. aged 79 years. The deceased came from Kentucky to this state in 1826, and has been a resident of Sangamon county since that time. He died as he has always lived, a consistent christian. He leaves a wife and seven children all grown up and settled in life, and numerous friends to mourn his loss. The funeral will take place this morning."[a]
