Notes for ISAAC CLINKENBEARD:
Isaac was born in 1824 and died in November 1903.[a] Isaac and William Clinkenbeard (1819-1890) of Winchester, Kansas, were both the uncles of James Allen Clinkenbeard,[a] who was a great-grandson of John and Mary (Lucas) Clinkenbeard, the inference being that Isaac and William were brothers. At the 1850 Federal Census, Isaac (aged 27, born in 1823 in Kentucky) was living in Bloomington, Buchanan County, Missouri, with, presumably, his mother Mary (Carter) Clinkenbeard (aged 60, born in 1790 in Virginia) and his brother John Clinkenbeard (aged 33, born in 1817 in Tennessee).[b] Isaac was shown still living in Bloomington in 1871 when he was a witness to his mother's widow's pension application.[c]
In 1880 the U.S. Census again enumerated Isaac and his family in Bloomington, Buchanan County, Missouri, as follows:[d]

One researcher quoted the following note written by Earl Paul Clinkenbeard (1892-aft.1973):
"There was an Isaac Clinkenbeard who was a cousin of Earl's grandfather Wesley. He lived between St. Joseph and Stewartsville [De Kalb Co., Missouri]. He raised several children. Earl's Mother Catherine played with Ike's [i.e., Isaac's?] daughter Betty when they were children about 1870."[e] It should be noted, however, that there were several Isaac Clinkenbeards in the various Clinkenbeard lines at that time.

She married BENJAMIN F. ESTES 23 January 1848 in Platte County, Missouri497,498. He was born 1825 in Kentucky499, and died Unknown.

Notes for MARY ELIZABETH CLINKENBEARD:
One source that lists various relatives of James Allen Clinkenbeard lists three of James's uncles and aunts who, thereby, would clearly seem to be siblings:[a]
---Isaac Clinkenbeard (b. 1824; d. Nov 1903).
---William Clinkenbeard (b. 15 Feb 1819; d. 5 Mar 1894).
---Mary Elizabeth Clinkenbeard (b. 11 May 1829; d. 27 Feb 1885).
Isaac's having been identified as a child of John and Mary (Carter) Clinkenbeard, it would follow that William and Mary also were their children.
Both the 1830[b] and 1840[c] Federal Census schedules list in the household of the above John Clinkenbeard an unidentified daughter born between 1825 and 1830, who, presumably, was Mary Elizabeth.

Notes for LEWIS CLINKENBEARD:
[Note: Lewis's filial relationship to John and Mary (Carter) Clinkenbeard is not proved but is conjecture based upon circumstantial evidence.]
The witnesses to documents in Mary (Carter) Clinkenbeard's War of 1812 Widow's Pension claim are appear to be sons "L." and Isaac, assumed to be Mary's sons.[a] "L" is almost certainly this Lewis, whose mother (like Mary) was born in Virginia.
At the 1850 Federal Census, Lewis was living in the household of Charles A. Allgaier in District No. 2, Clarke County, Kentucky, and shown as aged 17 (born 1833), and was a Tinner born in Kentucky.[b] Lewis was living in Bloomington, Buchanan County, Missouri, in 1871 when he signed the documents for his mother's Widow's Pension.[a]
The 1880 Federal Census revealed the family to be living in 24th Street, Saint Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri, and to consist of the following:[c]

He married MARY ANN JONES 11 March 1858 in St Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri509, daughter of JIM [JAMES?] JONES. She was born 1841 in Kentucky510, and died 29 April 1919 in Buchanan County, Missouri511.

Notes for ISAAC CLINKENBEARD:
Cousin Maude Clinkenbeard Spencer wrote that Isaac was her (Mrs Spencer's) grandfather, and that "Grandfather said that they moved to Bourbon County [Kentucky] when he was a baby."[a] Isaac was buried in Sugar Creek Cemetery, De Kalb County, Missouri.[b]
