Notes for W
ILLIAM CLINKENBEARD:
William was the son of Joseph and Nancy (Delay) Clinkenbeard and the grandson of William Clinkenbeard and Hester Van Metre. Upon their father's death, a guardian was appointed for William and his brother John by the Court. Regarding John, the entry in Nicholas County Court Order Book D stated: 'May 1821 - John Carter, guardian to John Clinkenbeard, infant orphan of Joseph Clinkenbeard, deceased." A similar entry appeared later for William in Nicholas County Court Order Book E: "July 1824 - John Carter, Jr., guardian to William Clinkenbeard, infant orphan of Joseph Clinkenbeard, deceased."[a] In that era, an "infant" (i.e., a minor) whose father had died was considered an orphan and was placed under a guardian by the court even though the minor was living with and being cared for by his mother.
At the 1840 Census, William was living in Sangamon County, Illinois, with the following household members: Males: 1 under 5; females: 2 under 5. William was shown as employed in Agriculture.[b] The 1850 Census found the family living in Sangamon County, Illinois: William Clinkenbeard: 44, Kentucky; Lavina, 37, Kentucky; Julia, 15, Illinois; William, 12, Illinois; Mary, 10, Illinois; Samuel, 3, Illinois; John, 1/12, Illinois.[c] In 1860, the Census enumerated the family in Watson Postal District, Sangamon County, Illinois: William, 51, Kentucky; Lavina, 45, Tenn; W.H., 22; M.E., 20; S.T., 11; Josiah, 8; J.A., 5; Frances, 4.[d]
William was rather peripatetic. One researcher related that William "Came to Sangamon County, IL., in 1825, returned to KY in 1827, back to IL. in 1829. Moved to Pleasant Gap, Bates Co., MO. in Mar 1873."[e] Land records disclose the following purchase of 40 acres of land by William in Logan County, Illinois: "Purchaser: CLINKENBEARD WILLIAM, Record ID: 98295; Date: 2 Feb 1835; Acres: 40; Price: $1.25; Type of Sale: Federal sale (FD); County: Logan Co., Ill.; Section: 31; Section part: NESE; Township: 18N; Range: 02; Meridian: 3; Purchaser res.: Sangamon Co., Ill.; Archive Vol. No: 068; Archive page no.: 196."[f]

Robert and Julia Ann were living alone in Alexandria, Leavenworth County, Kansas, at the time of the 1900 Federal Census. Robert was buried in the Wise Cemetery, Winchester, Jefferson County, Kansas.[a]

Notes for R
OVINA/ROWENA CLINKENBEARD:
A daughter of Isaac and Iva Clinkenbeard was shown in both the 1830 and 1840 Censuses to have been born between 1825 and 1830. From information received from Analee Hickman (see below), this daughter appears to have been Rovina/Rowena Clinkenbeard.[a]
Hickman states that

"We are connected to this line of Clinkenbeards through Isaac McClelland [Clinkenbeard], son of John Clinkenbeard and Mary Lucas, through their daughter Rovina/Rowena b. 1832, KY; d. Touse, Buchanan Co., MO. Married our Hickman ancestor William M. Hickman, b. 1825 in Mason Co., KY, d. 22 Apr 1904 in Prairie View, Phillips Co., KS. They were married 23 Mar 1847 in KS".[a]

This researcher states further that

"The information I have on Rovina is not documented, just what was passed down in family records".[a]

Another researcher identifies Rovina's mother's Christian name as "Ida".[b]
