THE DESCENDANTS OF [WILLEM?] KLINCKENBERG

77. JAMES L.7 CLINKENBEARD (ISAAC6, JOHN5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, WILLEM2 KLINCKENBERG, [WILLEM?]1) was born 28 June 1839 in Missouri553,554,555,556,557,558, and died 7 January 1911 in Easton, Leavenworth County, Kansas. He married MARY B. "MOLLIE" CONNELLY about 1870 in Kansas?559, daughter of HOWARD CONNELLY and ELIZA ATCHISON. She was born 29 January 1855 in Missouri560, and died 4 March 1944 in (presumably) Easton, Leavenworth County, Kansas561,562.

Notes for J
AMES L. CLINKENBEARD:
James's wife is identified as Mary B. "Mollie" Connelly, sister of Lillian Connelly and daughter of Howard Connelly and Eliza Jane Atchison.[a] The date of James's marriage is estimated from the birthdate of his and Mollie's first child. James was living in Gentryville/Miller Township, Gentry County, Missouri, in 1850, and in Crawford Township, Buchanan County, Missouri, in 1860. Between 1860 and 1870 he moved to Easton, Leavenworth County, Kansas, where the Censuses show him living from 1870 through 1900.
In the 1900 U.S. Census, "Jose" (i.e., Mary Josephine "Jossie" Clinkenbeard) was listed as living in James and Mollie's household because of the divorce of her parents, Wright Allen Clinkenbeard and Lillian May Connelly. In the Census schedule, she was listed as James's "niece" (actually, his first cousin twice removed, i.e., two generations removed).[b] She was in fact, however, the niece of James's wife, Mollie Connelly, the sister of Jossie's mother, Lillian May (Connelly) Clinkenbeard. James's father, Isaac, was the brother of Jossie's great grandfather, John Clinkenbeard, Jr, who was the father of William Clinkenbeard of Winchester, who in turn was the father of Wright Allen Clinkenbeard, Jossie's father.
One Clinkenbeard descendant wrote: "I have . . pictures of James L Clinkenbeard and Mollie Connelly Clinkenbeard and their children. . . Mollie ran a boarding house or small hotel and was a very good cook, as was her daughter, Bertha Maude Clinkenbeard, my grandmother. My ggrandfather, James L., owned and operated a Livery stable in Easton. Everyone called him 'Uncle Jim'."[c]

81. SARAH ELIZABETH7 CLINKENBEARD (LUCAS6, JOHN5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, WILLEM2 KLINCKENBERG, [WILLEM?]1) was born 26 November 1831 in Clarke County, Kentucky598, and died 5 November 1896 in Liberty, Clay County, Missouri598. Notes for S
ARAH ELIZABETH CLINKENBEARD:
A great-grandson of Sarah's has noted the following: "According to Adams (Appendix II to McAllister, Edward N. & Annagelle: ESTES FAMILIES IN OLD CLAY COUNTY, MO, 1972, and other family records, Sarah Elizabeth's parents died when she was young, her father during the cholera epidemic of 1833 in Kentucky. She was raised by Robert Allan, brother of her mother, and moved to Missouri with this uncle when she was eleven. When her son, John Sterling Price, died in 1887, she and the youngest daughter, Lee Ella, were left alone on the family farm west of Liberty. Sarah sold the farm and built the house on North Morse Avenue in Liberty where my (Madge's) uncle, Oren Ivan Moore, lived until sometime in the 1940s. McAllister gives her date of death as nov. 5, 1895.
"She filed for a pension based on Abraham's service in the Mexican War on August 29, 1887, and received $8.00 a month until her death. The documents she filed at this time (in her handwriting) give her birth date as 26 November 1831 and birthplace as Clarke County, Kentucky. Also, according to these documents, she owned no property. The marriage information given here states that she and Abraham were married on January 22, 1850 in Gentryville, Gentry County, Missouri, by Squire Booker Smith. Her birthplace of Georgetown (from Madge's work) does not agree, as Georgetown is not in Clark county. (Maybe it was in 1830.) Also of interest, on her pension application she spelled her name 'Clinkingbeard'.
"Obit from the LIBERTY TRIBUNE, 13 November 1896: 'Mrs. Lizzie Estes died the 5th inst. at the home of her son-in-law, Joseph K. Estes, in this city. Buried Little Shoal [Cemetery]. She was the widow of Abraham Estes, who was killed during the late war, and was the mother of James Estes, Mrs. L.K. Estes, Allen Estes, Mrs. Milton Moore, Mrs. C.G. Bandy & Miss Lee Estes'."[a]
Another descendant, a great-great-grandson of Sarah's, stated regarding Sarah: "Sarah Elizabeth Clinkinbeard, born 26 November 1831 in Georgetown, Ky. and died 5 November 1896, buried at Little Shoal Cemetery just outside of Liberty, Mo. She was married to Abraham Estes born 30 January 1823. He was killed in the Civil War on 15 July 1864. He is also buried at L.S. Cemetery."[b]
Regarding the question of Sarah's birthplace, at the time of her birth Georgetown was located in Scott County and not in Clark County. It thus appears that Sarah was not born in Georgetown but rather in Clark County.

Notes for ELIZABETH DICKINSON HIGGINS ESTES:
Milton Allan Miller, the writer's fourth cousin once removed, descends from Sarah Elizabeth Clinkenbeard and Abraham Estes through their daughter, Elizabeth Dickinson Higgins Estes, and Elizabeth's daughter, Ilda Alice Moore (Milton's mother), who was born 29 September 1895 in Gashland, Clay County, Missouri, died 15 November 1947 in Deadwood, Lawrence County, South Dakota, and who married on 11 February 1919 in Liberty, Clay County, Missouri, Herschel Bedinger Miller, born 11 November 1890 in Niobrara, Knox, New Brunswick, Canada, died 11 August 1989 in Belle Fourche, Butte County, South Dakota.
