  Notes for MILDRED MAUDE CLINKENBEARD:
[The writer'sthird cousin twice removed.]
Mildred Maude Clinkenbeard will be remembered with gratitude as a dedicated genealogist who avidly researched the Clinkenbeard family and who started a number of her cousins, including the writer, on their journeys into the history of the family by providing valuable historical data.
Cousin Polly Sutherland wrote that a friend in Ardmore, Oklahoma, had found in The Clagg Funeral Home in Sulphur, Oklahoma, the following letter that Maude Clinkenbeard Spencer had written
on 30 January 1968:
"To whom it may concern:
"I do want to be cremated. I do not want a funeral service; no flowers; all I want is to have the date of death. I do want a small marker put in the Louis Albert Clinkenbeard family plot in Alva, Woods County, Oklahoma, cemetery. Marker to state: 'Maude Clinkenbeard Spencer B. Jan. 13, 1911, D. (you can put in the date). Author of "McCracken-Clinkenbeard Genealogy".'
(signed) "Maude Clinkenbeard Spencer."
Polly reported that the following additional information was given by the funeral home:
Mildred Maude Clinkenbeard Spencer
311 W. 14th St., Sulphur, OK.
Date of Birth: January 13, 1911
Place of Birth: Winchester, OK
Date of Death: February 25, 1968- 3:10 am, Age 57
Place of Death: Arbuckle Hospital, Sulphur, OK
Member of Christian Church
Mother's Name: Maude McCracken
Father's Name: Louis Albert Clinkenbeard
Survivors: Son - Raymond R. Spencer, Tallahassee, Florida. Brothers - Rex L. Clinkenbeard, 1820 Coventry Lane, Oklahoma City, OK; Hal H. Clinkenbeard, Memphis, Tennessee; Tom J. Clinkenbeard, McAllen, Texas; Clifford I. Clinkenbeard, P.O. Box 51, McAlester, OK. Sisters - Eva Blanche Austin, Perry, OK; Vera C. Doud, Houston, Texas; Rosalie Rieniets, Pratt, Kansas.
Maude's genealogical research records apparently passed into the possession of her granddaughter upon Maude's death. In connection with attempts to locate the granddaughter, Polly wrote further:
"Perhaps we can track down the granddaughter from this. Apparently she [Maude] only had the one son. The very nice woman at the Sulphur Funeral Home said that they had another funeral about 6 months ago and it was paid for by Betty Clinkenbeard, 505 S. Wortman, Claremore, OK 74017, Phone 918-341-7164. I believe the funeral was for her mother who was a Morgan. Betty [sic] sister Ruth Clark lives in Sulphur. We might write Betty to see if she knew Maude.
"Surprising what you can find out isn't it!! I know that you have information about Maude on your gedcom, or at least the one you sent or Jim Haupt sent, but perhaps this will give us some leads. I
checked my US Clinkenbeard Phone List and didn't find any of the brothers. There is a listing for a C. Clinkenbeard in McAlester, OK. There is a Rex in Duncan OK, but not in OKC.
      "Hope this helps.
"Polly."

Notes for E
DWARD ALLEN CLINKENBEARD:
[The writer's first cousin twice removed (common ancestor Howard Connelly), and second cousin thrice removed (common ancestor John Clinkenbeard (1755-1837).)
Edward and his bride Mary were living with his parents in Easton Township, Leavenworth County, Kansas, at the 1900 Federal Census.[a]
A cousin, Jean Clinkinbeard, wrote that the family of her husband, Kenneth Clinkinbeard, moved from Easton, Leavenworth County, Kansas, to Nortonville, Jefferson County, Kansas, in 1923 (". . when my husband, Kenneth, was two years old . .").[b]
One source has Edward's wife as "Frances M. Murray," and we must assume that this was Edward's second wife since her and Mary's birthdates are different.[c]
Mention has been made of "the Clinkenbeard Stores in Kansas during the early 1900's . . My great-uncles, Ed and Asa called 'Ace' (both sons of James L. Clinkenbeard and Mary [Mollie] B. Connelly) operated the store near Easton for many years. My father, Owen Langley, told me that he and his two older brothers, Ben and Fred would often go to help out at the Clinkenbeard Store. Owen was only about 11 or 12, and his uncles would only allow him to sweep or clean up, but the older boys were allowed to participate in the sales. I recently read that there were a chain of Clinkenbeard general stores. I cannot find anything about them . ."[d]
