He was the youngest son of Michael Miller

He served in the Civil War under General Wade Hampton and carried his title of Major until his death.

He amassed a fortune in his lifetime and left several monuments to his achievements in the form of gracious homes. His own house is the second oldest in Jefferson and is still celebrated as an example of Low Country Colonial. Designed and built prior to Civil war by William Crow of Union County, whose grandson is Major W C Heath of Monroe.

Major Miller home is occupied by Mrs. J. W. Miller (in 1950) widow of one of the Major's sons.

Biography:

John bought the 'Miller Store' from his brothers and over the years amassed a fortune. His house still stands today in Jefferson and is a great example of the Low Country Colonial type of Architecture/ IT was designed and build by William Crow, before the Civil War.
Has John's death date as March 23, 1888 in Jefferson, Chesterfield Co., SC.
