Arrived in Virginia at time of Bacon's Rebellion in Jan 1677. He and brother, Samuel, were British soldiers discharged in 1683.[Gentry7.FTW]

sent to Jamestown, VA, to quell an indian uprising. When his duties were ended
he decided to stay in this new country. Early land records indicate they had
land adjacent to each other. No descendants of Samuel Gentry have been found.
The first authentic record we have found of the Gentrys is in the
register of St. Peter's Parish of New Kent County, VA, shows the baptism of
Peter Gentry, son of Samuel Gentry on 10 April 1687. No other trace of this
Peter Gentry has been found. St. Peter's Registry also shows the baptism of
Elizabeth Gentry, on 29 August 1687; Nicholas Gentry baptized 30 May 1697, and
Mable Gentry baptized 13 December 1702.[Woodmerge.FTW]

COMMENTS:1) Per Gentry family society, Nicholas and his brother Samuel were
British soldiers.They came to America at the time of the Bacon Rebellion.
They landed at Jamestown VA in Jan 1677 and were paid off and discharged in
the Fall of 1683. Both were land owners in 1684.
2) "Per History of Albemarle County, Virginia," by Rev. Edgar Woods, Mirginia:
The Michie Company, Printers, 1901, p. 205, "The different Gentry families in
Albemarle seem to have sprung from the same head. Nicholas Gentry died in
1779, leaving eleven children, Moses, David, Nicholas, Mary Hinson, Robert,
Benajah, Nathan, Martin, Elizabeth Haggard, Jame Timberlake, and Ann Jenkins.
Moses bought land in 1778 from Samuel Gay on the old Lynchburg Road north of
Garland's Store. He was a ruling elder in the Cove Church. He died in 1810.
His children were Claiborne and Nicholas, who married sisters, Jane and Mary,
daughters of Bezaleel Maxwell, Frances, the wife of Thomas Fitzpatrick, and
Joanna, the wife of Joseph Walters. Addison, a son of Nicholas, married Lucy,
a sister ofo Shelton F. Leake."[Masters.FTW]
