William Barnes, the progenator of the Barnes family, came from Georges Creek, Maryland to what is now Marion County, West Virginia, some time before 1782.The first census of the United States, taken in 1782 give the name of Willim Barnes living in Monongalia County, West Virginia (Marion County as well as Harrison County were then a part of Monongalia County). William McIntire was born in 1776 in Virginia.The census of 1830 and 1850 showed him and his family living in Fleming, Kentucky. The census of 1860 show William McIntire living with his son William A. Mcintire in Harrison County, West Virgina. The spelling of McIntire was changed to McIntyre in the early 1900's.
