FOUR-YEAR-OLD JAMES IS STARTED WELL ON ROAD TO BE COLLEGE PROFESSOR
Hickman, Ky., April 28 - If James Wilson Badger, four-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Badger of Hickman, keeps on at the pace he is going, in a few more years he will be delving into the mysteries of Greek mythology and be able to recite Shakespeare forward and backward. It all started last Christmas when James got a set of A, B, C blocks. His mother told him what the letters were and in five days he knew them perfectly and was able to spell out simple words. Now he knows how to spell over 200 words, some of which would cause an educated person to ponder and then perhaps refer to Mr. Webster. The child can rattle off the names of all the states and capitals in the United States and spell them correctly. Big words have no terror for James and he can tell you what most of them mean and how to use them. He also has a smattering of American history ans has a marvelous memory for dates. In other things James is a normal four-year-old boy and has a great ambition to own a pony. He will be five years old in November.

Lake County Courier, Hickman, Ky. 1936 - "Ripley's Believe It Or Not".
Little James Badger, 10-year-old son of O.B. Badger of Phillippy, Tenn., was the marvel of a recent Cotton Carnival, demonstrating his keen ability to perform in spelling and arithmetic at the same time. He spelled words just as fast as his questioners could shoot them out at him, and had his pencil flying on a pad of paper doing sums in multiplication, addition, subtraction and division at the same time. James also proved it was no memory stunt, because the words and problems were named by his audience at random.
