Hi and welcome to the My Family Website. This is going to be a work in progress and I hope that anyone who has information about the family will send it to me and I will include it as I can. If you have any pictures of family or Scotland send them in and I'll do my best to include them in my family site. I have also started a website from the ancestors of Peter Stobie and Mary Christie at: www.stobiefamily.com I hope that you will visit. Let me tell you who I am. My name is William (Bill) Wright Stobie Jr. and I am one of the GGGGrandchildren of Peter Stobie and Mary Christie. Now I know that there are a lot of you that are kin to Peter and Mary and I hope that I hear from some of you. You will also note that I've included all connections to this family even the ancestors of my children and my others. If there is a connection to the Stobie Family I will add them. But the story of Peter and Mary and their descendants (and ancestors) is primary. Peter and Mary, were married in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland on December 2, 1804. They were crofters (tenant farmers) on a croft near Crieff on the Earn River. They had 8 children, 3 sons and 5 daughters; Peter, James, John, Janet, Margaret, Mary, Martha and Elizabeth. Peter and thier son John died in Scotland and Mary Christie and her family came to the new world in 1845. They sailed from Greenock, Scotland on June 1st aboard the vessel Brig Jean captained by Alexander Allen. It was a new ship of 169 tons, 78 feet 8 inches beam to a square stern. It took 7 weeks to cross to Quebec City. The Stobie family settled in Goulbourne township, Quebec, Canada. |
