Notes for Reading Stoop: Reading is not mentioned as residing with his father in his father's 1820 Revolutionary War pension application. This does not necessarily indicate his death. At the age of 15 he would have been at the age of apprenticeship to a tradesman, such as a blacksmith, cooper, carpenter, etc. Most times the apprentices resided at the tradesman's home to whom they were apprenticed. It was the tradesman's responsibility to feed, clothe and house their apprentices. This could account for his where-abouts at this time. This is suggested because it is possible that Reading later migrated to the great northwest wilderness that was Ohio at this early time.It has been discovered there was a "Reding" B. Stoop who married an Ann Roegels in Montgomery County, Ohio in 1830.The name Reding Stoop by any spelling is truly a very odd coincidence. As his younger brother John also immigrated with his family to this general area, it is entirely possible that this is the Reading Stoop that we have long been searching for. |
