3. JOHN3 STOUT (RICHARD2, JOHN1) was born 1645 in Gravesend, Long Island, NY, and died 24 Nov 1724 in Middletown, Monmouth Co., NJ. He married ELIZABETH CRAWFORD 13 Jan 1671/72 in Middletown, Monmouth Co., NJ, daughter of WILLIAM H. CRAWFORD. She was born Abt. 1644.

John and Elizabeth were married by Justice of the Peace John Bowne.
In 1675 he was chosen a magistrate of a Monthly Court of small cases. 1679-1680 he was chosen a deputy to represent Middletown in the local Assembly. On 4 July 1681, John was appointed an ensign in the military company of Middletown and in 1684-5, he was appointed constable of Middletown. When Middletown was settled in 1664-5, he drew a lot on Main Street and one in an outlying area.

JAMES BOWNE, son of William Bowne, I, was baptized at Salem, Mass, Aug.
25, 1636. He was taken thence in 1644 or 1645, to Gravesend, L. I., by his father.
In 1665, he became on of the Monmouth Patentees and settled in that portion of the
tract known as Portland Point.
While residing at Gravesend, he married, says the Town Book, Dec. 26, 1665, Mary
daughter of Richard and Penelope Stout. Other accounts fix the date of this even as Nov.
26, 1665, and Dec. 26, 1668, the result, undoubtedly, of careless transcription.
