Abby was born in Idesheim Germany on April 17, 1875. She celebrated her eleventh birthday on board the ship Belgenland of the Red Star Line in her trip from Antwerp to the United States. Twenty-two years later she married Michael Baatz in Aurora, Illinois. Michael was born in Echternach, Germany on June 7, 1872.
Michael and Abby moved to Rock Valley, Iowa about 1908 where Michael was a farmer. Abby died on March 3, 1927. Michael died on June 7, 1943. They are buried in Rock Valley.
