Albert Russell Strunk , 68, Baptist minister and retired coal miner, died Saturday, August 24, [1968] in Somerset City Hospital. He had been ill for several weeks. The deceased was born May 29, 1900, in Winfield, Tenn., a son of the late John Strunk and Rebecca Cummins Strunk. He came to Stearns as a young man and worked in the Stearns mines until retirement. He was a member of the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mittie Phillips Strunk, Stearns; three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Stone King, Aurora, Indiana, Mrs. Shirley Wright and Mrs. Bonnie Burke, Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Russell and William Clyde Strunk, Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Prather, Stearns; Mrs. Lillie Olinger, Winfield, Tenn.; and Mrs. Flora Ryan, Helenwood, Tenn. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin Corder and Rev. Jake Jeffers officiating. Burial was in the Cotton Cemetery.

PHILLIPS, TOBE (OBELEE) - age 91, well known businessman of Oneida, passed
away Monday, January 3, 2000 at the Scott County after a long illness. Born
in Scott County, December 28, 1908, he was the son of the late William
Harrison and Elizabeth Huter Phillips. He was a member of the Bethlehem
Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips along with his wife were prominent business
partners for over 50 years. Together they established Tobes Motel and
Restaurant in 1934 in Onieda and worked side by side until their retirement
in 1984. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Lona
Rosser Phillips on February 16, 1985. She was also known as (Mrs. Tobe) by
many customers over many years of business at Tobes Motel; one son, Jack
Phillips I on December 16, 1985; 4 brothers, William (Bill) Phillips, James
Phillips, Chester Phillips, and George Phillips; 2 sisters, Clara Phillips
Mounce and Beatrice Phillips Boyer. He is survived by one daughter, (Pat)
Patricia Phillips Mays and husband Kenny of Oneida; 3 grandsons, Ken Tobey
Mays and wife Janet, Harrison Patrick Mays and wife Vicki, all of Oneida, and
Jack Phillips II of Oak Ridge; 2 granddaughters, Kenia Renee Mays Bowling and
husband Mark of Oneida and Laura Kristy Phillips Anderson and husband Lee of
London, Ky.; 4 great granddaughters, Colbey Renee Bowling, Maci Jade Mays,
Elizabeth Anderson, and Katherine Anderson; 3 great grandsons, Andrew
Anderson, Nathaniel Mark Bowling, and Hogan Phillip Mays; step grandson, Jen
Watters; brother, Johncie Phillips and wife Linda of Rockwood; sister-in-law,
Evlyn Phillips of Columbus, Ohio; special friend and caregiver, Jean Bowling
and family. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and
friends. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, January 5 at 2 p.m. in
the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Philip Kazee officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Carson Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will
receive friends Tuesday evening after 6 p.m. at Jones & Son Funeral Home.
