Elmer Posey West, 71, of the Pine Hill community, passed away Friday morning, October 29, at his home.
He was the son of the late Alfred West and the late Nancy Lucinda Phillips West, and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Duncan, and Earnie Sharp; and one brother, Oscar West. He was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. West is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Carson West of the Pine Hill Community; two daughters, Mrs. Lester (Jean) Gober and Mrs. Paul (Linda) Breeding, both of Cincinnati, O.; two sons, Junior West of Cincinnati, O., and Charles West of the Pine Hill Community; two sisters, Nell Lay of Oneida, and Mrs. Elmer (Hester) Newport of the Pine Hill Community; two brothers, W.O. West, Sr., of Oneida, and James Lone West of Memphis; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 31, at the Pine Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. James 0. Laxton and Rev. A.V. Stanley officiating. The Pine Hill Baptist Church Choir sang. Burial was in the Isaac Reed Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: James L. Claborn, Lawton Duncan, Kelly Lee Ellis, Elmer Lay, J.D. Lay, and Bill Strunk

PHILLIPS, POLIE - 84, of the Cherry Fork community, passed away on Saturday morning, January 1, 2000, at the McCreary County Health Care Facility in Pine Knot, Ky. He was the son of the late JOHN RAY PHILLIPS and DRUCINDA PHILLIPS and was also preceded in death by five sisters; one brother; and one half-brother; one grandson, JOHNNY WILLIAM CHITWOOD; three sons-in-law, GURSTLE CHITWOOD, VIRGIL BOWLING, and A.Y. PHILLIPS; four brothers-in-law, EMBER PHILLIPS, JAMES HENRY WEST, MANFORD PHILLIPS, and FRED PHILLIPS; and sisters-in-law, LILLIE PHILLIPS and CHARLENA PHILLIPS. Mr. PHILLIPS was a retired mechanic from the Terry Motor Company with 21 years of services and a member of the Amazing Grace Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, MARY ELSIE PHILLIPS; seven daughters, EDITH CHITWOOD, REBA BOWLING, WILMA JEAN PHILLIPS and husband ROGER, ANNIE DUNCAN and husband JAMES, JUDY PHILLIPS and husband WILBERT, JOSEPHINE BOWLING and husband ARTHUR, and KATHLEEN PHILLIPS and husband ROBERT, all of Helenwood; two sons, LEROY PHILLIPS and wife WILMA of Winfield, and ARNOLD PHILLIPS and wife JEANNIE of Helenwood; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special nieces, CASSIE WILSON of Pine Knot, Ky., and LOIS TERRY of Oneida; husband MICHAEL, all of Oneida; two special nephews, DOUG FOSTER and wife DEBBIE and SHANE FOSTER and wife MELISSA all of Oneida; one sister-in-law, NORA SLAVEN of Harriman; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends. Denver Reed, 81, of the Pentecost Community, passed away Tuesday evening, August 29 at his home, following a: lingering illness.

Born in the Hazel Valley Community on April 17, 1908, he was the son of the late Isaac R. S. Reed and the late Sally Ann Phillips Reed. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Gail Terrell; one son, Roger Reed and one grandson, Steven Reed.

He was retired from the Tennessee Railroad and a member of the Pentecost Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Jones Reed of the Pentecost Community; three sons: L. D. Reed and Sam Reed, both of Muncie, Ind.; and Carroll Reed of Ross, Ohio; four daughters: Dru Noble of Portland, Ind.; Lois Farrar of Pocahontas, Ark.; Wanda West and Celia Thomas, both of Oneida; one brother, Hernald Reed of Oneida; a special grandson, David Thomas; 24 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren Several nieces, nephews and many other relatives survive also.

Funeral services were conducted from the West-Murley FuneralHome Chapel at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 1, with the Rev. James 0. Laxton and the Rev. Glendle Phillips officiating. Tracy Orick and Susie Thomas sang. Burial followed in the Hazel Valley Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Rick Reed, Joe Reed, Danny Reed Jeff West, Donnie West and Tim Kelly. Honorary pallbearers were Virgil Ross, Harry Carson, Junior Keeton, Lee Goodman, Morris Goodman, Kenneth Terry, Elbert Laxton, John Partin, Hilary Terry, Billy Joe Smith, Claude Terry, Jr. and Hollis Phillips.
