Reva Agnes Smith Thomas, 58, of the Grave Hill Community, passed away on Februazy 20, 1993, at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY. She was the daughter of the late Barney Smith and the late Emma Terry Smith. She was a member of the Foster Cross Roads Baptist Church for many years, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her husband of 38 years, John Marion Thomas of Grave Hill; one son, William A. Thomas and wife Deanna of Corbin, KY, two daughters, Sheila Kay Sursa and husband Ed of Corbin, KY, and Lelia Faye Cromer and husband Bentley of Mt. Vernon, KY., one granddaughter, Stephanie Dobbs of Mt Vernon, KY, two grandsons, Daniel Dobbs, also of Mt. Vernon, KY and Jonathon Thomas of Corbin, KY; one step granddaughter, four step grandsons; two sisters, Doris Carpenter and husband Dave of Sunman, IN and Barney Ruth West of Huntsville; seven brothers, Estel Smith, Arlo D. Smith, and Bradley A. Smith all of Sunman, IN, William L. Smith of Parkers Lake, Denson Smith of Sunman, and Osmond Smith of Oneida and Esmond Smith of Roseburg, OR; several sisters-in-law and brother-in-law on John Marions side; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted February 23, at the West Murley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wesley Duncan and Rev. Earl Bridges officiating. Burial was in the Grave Hill Cemetery.

John Curtis West, 45, of Oneida, passed away suddenly, Saturday morning, May 7, 1988, at the Scott County Hospital.

He was the son of the late William West and Lula Taylor West of Oneida. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather Gid Norris.

He was a member of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his mother: Lula Taylor West of Oneida, his wife Barnie Ruth Smith West of Oneida; two sons: Gregory Wayne West of Knoxville, and Curtis Myron West of Oneida; a daughter Johnnie Ruth West of Oneida; a sister: Donna Marcum of Winfield; a special brother-in-law: William Lindsay Smith; a special nephew: Jeffery King of Oneida and two special nieces: Jennifer Miller of North Carolina and Bonnie King of Corbin, KY and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the West Oneida Baptist Church at I p.m. Tuesday, May 10 with Rev. Charlie Duncan officiating Chris Norris, Maxine Terry and Doyle Smith sang.

Burial was in the Hazel Valley Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Byron Carpenter, Wade Carpenter, Darryl Miller, Cecil Strunk, Darryl Smith and Rock Walters. Honorary pallbearers: Jack Ellis, Chuck Cross, Doyle Smith, Donald Smith and Bobby Davidson.

John Curtis West was baptized into the New Light United Baptist Church, Winfield, Tennessee, September 8, 1957.

Herbert Alden Cross, Sr., 66, of Oneida, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 1987 at the Scott County Hospital, after a long illness.

He was born June 26, 1920 in Scott County. He was the son of the late James M. Cross and Nancy Phillips Cross, and was also preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Vence and Carolyn Acres.

Mr. Cross was a former teacher and a former City Recorder and City Judge for the Town of Oneida. He was a highly decorated combat veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion Post #136, VFW, Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers Association, a 32nd Degree Mason of Oneida Lodge #695, and a member of the Highpoint Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie Phillips Cross of Oneida; four sons and daughters-in-law: James R. and Barbara Cross of Knoxville. George W. and Debbie Cross of Oak City, Utah, Herbert A. Jr., and Peggy Cross and Charles W. and Tyra Cross, all of Helenwood; one daughter and son-in-law: George and Marilyn (Cross) Byrd, of the Mill Branch Community; one brother, Walter Cross of Maryville; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Several nieces, nephews and many other relatives suriive also.

Funeral services were conducted at I p. m. Friday, January 9, from the Highpoint Baptist Church, with the Rev. Obis Byrd and the Rev. Johnny Zachary officiating. Special music was provided by the Highpoint Baptist Church Choir. Burial followed in the Cecil Cemetery in the Cherry Fork Community. Full military honor were conducted by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida. Masonic memorial services were conducted by Oneida Masonic Lodge #695 at 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, from the Chapel of Scott County Funeral Home.

Active and honorary pallbearers were George Roark, Jack Laxton, Ola Hughett, James L. Phillips, Andy Lewallen, Jesse Lovett, Glenn Jeffers. Ballard Walker, Steve Jeffers, Bobby Phillips, Denzil Pennington and Paul Hanauer.
