History of the Miramichi -- Tradesmen At the close of the American Revolution about 12,000 Loyalists and disbanded soldiers poured into New Brunswick. Miramichi received its share, many of them skilled tradesmen, but Miramichi was not dominated by the Loyalist settlers as much as were the newer settlements. During the war which he spent at Maugerville, William Davidson had secured a contract to cut masts for the British Navy and the need of finding vessels to ship them in led to the rise of the ship building industry.
