| The Suber name was originally Zuber. Zuber is german for small tub for wine making or bathing and also, means small stream. The family came thru Rotterdamn to Philadelphia in the early 1700's. This was the time of the palatine emigration to Pennsylvania and I would have guessed that the family was Palatine (A region of Germany devestated by the thiry years war) our branch of the family has a number of french first names like Gaspar which may mean that they where German speaking but may have originated in an area influenced by the French, such as Alsace, Switzerland, etc. The family came to Bucks County, PA. and then emigrated elsewhere. A branch of the family is descended from those that settled on a plantation in Pomaria, Newberry District, South Carolina. The plantation was on the Saluda River. |
