Updated October 1, 2007Joan W Sublett | One day you realize that you are growing older and you think about your family . My parents are both deceased and you have no one to ask about your anesteries. Well that was I. I started going to family reunions and meet some cousins and ask questions.They knew some things but like myself not to much. I started by asking for pictures and started with censusand asking other people about what they knew. Here is my story. Thomas Brooks of Wilkes County of North Carolina married Martha Brewer and their first child was Mary Melinda Born1840. Robert was second, Smith was third child. He is my great great Grandfather.Smith, Robert, and their father Thomas were in Civil War.Robert died of desease on May 12, 1862. Thomas the father was taken prisoner of war in Battle at Spotsylvania in Frederricksburg, Viriginia.That was May 8 to 18th, 1864. Thomas was taken to Pointlook Outin Maryland. He was then transferred to Elmira, New York. He died of disease on December 24, 1864 and is buried in Woodlawn NationalCemetery Elmira, N.Y. Thomas and Martha had other children, Susannah born 1849,Nancy born 1851,Lucy born1853 Thomas born 1856, Elizabeth born 1858 and Virginia born 1861We are searching for any imformation on Smith Brooks and his Father Thomas Brooks and we think Thomas Brooks Father is John Brooks. We have a lot on Smith and Thomas but we need more imformation on John.We would love to have any pictures , records or Marriage records if any one has any. We know that they were in Civil War and that John was in War of 1812. |
