Notes for William Frederick Henry HARPER:
William left home for Hamilton, O., at the far west end of Lake Ontario, about 200 miles west of Kingston. He soon met Jane SYLVESTER and m. her in 1874. He was a clerk at times, and also a traveling salesman at times. Before his marriage, from 1871 - 1874, William worked as a clerk and lived first at 36 Cherry St., then 23 Barton St., then 77 Main St.
After he married Sarah, they lived at 17 Gore St., then 52 Walnut St., then 44 Walnut St. In 1875, he became a traveling salesman for A. Hope and Co., and continued in that capaciety until 1878 or 1879. Meanwhile, Stuart was born, and then Sarah died, when the baby was not quite a year old. We do not know if he ever remarried, or where he was from 1878 - 1888. He may have still lived in Hamilton, but is not shown in the City Directories any more.
