Map of Hanover, Shelby, IN in 1820
The BLOOD, LUCAS, and COLE families all came to a spot about two miles south of Morristown, IN in 1820, when the land opened up for settlement. Morristown was not in existance, and they formed their own little town of Hanover along the Blue River. The cemetery is the main thing left, besides a few homes, and if you drive around to the west side of the river, you can see the remains of the dam and mill that were in use for many years. The dam ran from the LUCAS property on the east to land they sold to the dam builder on the west in Freemont. Abel COLE and Moses BLOOD blazed the path to the spot from Connorsville, IN, about 30 miles to the east.
