Notes for John O'Reilly:
John & Josephine were married in Nhill in 1917 after the Maloney family were living in the Lorquon - Yanac area resulting from Railway transfers.Their home was movedön site"on the O'Reilly property just in from Teakles.Later it was moved to Yanac where it remains in excellent order to this day.
John O'Reilly became a Commission Agent dealing in grain and Insurance amongst the farmers.He was a Justice of the Peace and an agent for the Vacuum Oil Co.(now Mobil).He also dealt in binder twine and wheat bags and incurred many bad debts with these during the depression.
In 1930 Harry Thiele, owner of the Yanac Store, became bankrupt and John bought the store from him.this was always a struggle as more farmers had cars and preferred to shop and socialise in Nhill on Fridays which was the acceted market day.As business did not pick up with health problems they sold the Yanac business to Mac Hughes and madethe move to Nill in 1939.
