Hi Folks,
I'm retired after 32 years of public service, and have taken up genealogy.

My primary families of research are Hawley, McConnell, McGonigle, and Scheble (which is an anglicized version of the Swiss name, Schibli).

I have found that my Hawley family roots date back to Joseph Hawley, b. 1603 in England, who settled in Stratford, CT.

My McConnell roots go back specifically to a great grandfather, Francis Charles (Frank) McConnell who was born near Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada, in 1830. His father was a Francis McConnell, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, who settled in Nova Scotia. Frank's mother was a Canadian, possibly an Indian or part-Indian. Frank was a plainsman and prospector, who eventually settled in Shasta County in Northern California.

My McGonigle's go back to Joseph McGonigle, an immigrant from Northern Ireland, possibly Counties Donegal or Antrim, who settled in then Virginia, now West Virginia, some time prior to 1812, as that was when his first child was born to his American born wife, Elizabeth Jones. This family ultimately settled in Delaware Co., Ohio.

My Scheble ancestors arrived in the US in 1832, coming on the Ship Rhone from Havre, France. They started their trip from Switzerland, Filisbach, Canton Aargau. The husband and father of the emmigrating group, Jakob Leonz Schibli, died before the family could set out, but his widow, Maria Josefa(Donati) Schibli, and their three children, Josef A., Albert Casper, and Maria Agatha Emilia (Emma)came anyway, honoring Jakob's deathbed request. They were accompanied by Johann Schibli, believed to be a brother of Jakob, and his family on the trip. John (Johann) and his family disappered in New York City, with all the group's funds. Maria Josefa sold her jewelry in order to finance her family's further travel to southern Ohio, where they settled first in Richmondale, Jefferson Twp., Ross County, OH. Maria Josefa remarried in Richmondale to a John Winebar, and later moved to central Ohio, living in Morrow and then Delaware counties.
