The Sumney Family Home PageUpdated May 14, 2002 |
Hi, my name is Barbi Sumney and I have been digging at the Sumney roots, uncovering past and present family members and attempting to coordinate information sharing with the many Sumneys throughout the USA who are actively researching or interested in the Sumney family genealogy. The Sumney family descended from Isaac Sumney who settled in eastern Pennsylvania in the early 1700's. The original ancestor is reported to have come from the Alsace region of Germany, although we have not been able to discover any confirming records of his arrival or his exact residence. We know of only two of Isaac's children: Isaac Sumney, Jr. for whom Sumneytown north of Philadelphia was named, and Jacob Sumney. From our research, it appears that all current Sumneys are descended from Jacob's son, Jacob Sumney, Jr. who fought in the Revolutionary War and later moved his family to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. If you are a Sumney or have any information or interest in our research, we would love to hear from you. |
