Elizabeth Boyd (daughter of Joseph Boyd) was born April 10, 1832 in Ireland, and died April 06, 1916 in Hume, Huron Co., MI. She married Elisha Smith on March 28, 1853 in Wolford, Granville County, Canada5, son of George T. Smith and Mary Mercy Vaughan.
Notes for Elizabeth Boyd: [copied and contributed by Linda Dewey and Ardith Spoelman, May 2000] HURON COUNTY TRIBUNE, April 14, 1916 Elizabeth Smith of Hume Township, died at her home, April 6, 1916, aged 84 years. She was born in Ireland, April 10, 1832, and was married to Elisha Smith, March 23, 1853. Mr. Smith having died two years previous. She was one of Hume's old and respected settlers, having lived in this community many years. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, was friendly and always willing to help in times of sickness and distress as she grew older, the latter part of her life most of her time was spent at home with her Bible where she spent hours reading her Master's words of comfort and cheer. No one was more willing to aid the suffering, cheer the desponding, sustain the weak. She truly believed that it was her duty as a Christian to do the will of her Master at all times. She was always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need--both in acts of kindness, and in words. We sympathize with her children and friends and neighbors, who mourn her departure; but we can only remind them that she is not dead, she is only sleeping, resting after a long and well spent life here; she cannot, and would not if she could, return to us; we can, if we will, go to her. Let us so live and perform our duties here as to insure a joyful reunion with those who have gone before, and a happy life in the great hereafter. The funeral services were held Sunday, April 9, Rev. Godsell of Kinde officiating. To this union were born nine children:--Helen, Mrs. Chris Peterson of Pinniebog, deceased; William of Central Lake, Emma, Mrs. George Carty, of Portage, Washington; Esther, of Alpena, Laura of Ubly; Thomas of Washington; Mary, who died in infancy; Sarah of Toledo, O; and Edwin, at home.
