I have been researching the Summers family history since 1990. The Tree has expanded to include others family links, such as Aplin, Pearcy, Jones and Tucker, to name a few.
The point at which the families of Summers and Aplin are with the marriage of Richard Summers and Mary Aplin. Richard Summers who was born at White Church, Dorset, England. Although information from the 1851 Census of Widworthy gives Richardís place of birth as Charmouth not White church as in 1861 census? He was born somewhere between 1817 and 1819, I estimate. He was the son of William Summers, born around 1795.

Richard married Mary Aplin (sometimes spelt Appling) in the parish of Offwell, near Honiton, on the 12th November 1840. On the marriage certificate it states that Richard was a resident of the parish of St.Mary, Redcliffe Bristol, at the time and that they were both "full of age". It gives his profession as a Labourer. The witness of the marriage was Joseph Lowder and Mary Ann Tucker.

Mary was a resident of Offwell at time of the wedding. It gives her age on the 1841 Census Returns as being born between 1817-1821, and her occupation as a "Honiton Lace Maker". They originally settled in the village of Offwell before moving to Widworthy sometime between 1841 and 1844.

On the 1861 Census return for Widworthy it states that Richard's occupation was a "Poultry and Marine store dealer". He was resident of one of a group of houses called Honiton Hill Cottages. Although on his son Eli's (1851) marriage certificate it gives Richardís profession as Marine Store Dealer.

Richard and Mary had 11 children:- William - 1841, Harriet - 1842, Louisa - 1844, Mary Ė 1846, Joseph- 1847, Ann - 1850, Eli - 1851, Elizabeth -1853, Ruth - 1855, Hannah - 1856 Emma -1860.

The Summers family mostly seems to be focused in South East Devon, England, around the towns/villages of Honiton, Axminister, Shute, Farway and others. Although having said that I have found links to New Zealand and U.S.A, on the Aplin side.
