Sumner Family of Virginia, New York, California, Texas

Updated September 5, 2000

We are researching the surnames Sumner, Owens, Hill, and Bell. The Sumner family is from Floyd County, Virginia and West Virginia.
The Owens and Hills are from Gonzales County, Texas. I am especially interested in George Houston Owens of Thomsponville, Texas. He was born in 1836 in Alabama and married Jo Anna Edwards of Harwood Texas. He served in Co.A, 4th Infantry Texas Volunteers, Keys Company, Hoods Brigade. He fought and was captured at Gettysburg.

The Bells (specifically George Earl Bell - 1892-1935) are originally from Tennessee and George moved to California sometime around 1925.

We are directly related to Hezekiah Sumner of Floyd County, born c 1750. Lineage is as follows:

Hezekiah Sumner b. c1750
Isiah Sumner b. c1798
Wyatt (Wyatt Wesley?) Sumner b. Jan. 20, 1832
John Floyd Sumner d. Mar. 13, 1913
Frank James Sumner b. Apr.5, 1895
Robert Lee Sumner b. Apr. 29, 1928
Paul Owen Sumner b. Oct. 22, 1963
Paul Owen Sumner
