CHANGING OUR FAMILY NAME FROM TUCKER - TO – SUMMERS
My Dad was named Jessie Carl Tucker at his birth in Paris, Tennessee to Newman Wallace Tucker and Margaret Jane Paschall. Newman worked for the Louisville & Nashville) Railroad. They lived in Pittsburgh for a short time.
Newman and Margaret separated and Margaret took Jessie back to Paris to live with his grandmother while Margaret worked and waited for the final decree of divorcement around 1919. Later, Margaret and Jessie moved to Indianapolis where she met and married Elza Summers. Between 1919 and 1923, it has been said that Elza Summers adopted Jessie thereby giving Jessie the legal last name of "Summers.” However, there are no adoption records to be found in Indiana. The marriage only lasted about four years and Margaret and Jessie moved to Cincinnati, Ohio sometime around 1924.
Dad later worked at the Lippencott's Cannery as a general worker where he soon met and later married my mother in 1928.
