The Supan family is interested in tracing our Supan, Brehm, Bowen, Flowers and Slaughter heritages.
The Supan name is Slovenian and John Supan came to America around 1880 and settled in Moundsville, West Virginia as a coal miner. The Bowen name dates back to Irish immigrants from 1770.
Many of the Flower’s and Bausell’ were pre-civil war Virginian’s and at least two served to the Confederacy. Conversely most of the Bowen lineage is from Pennsylvania/West Virginia with at least one person serving in the Union army.
Research into the Slaughter name has been a lost cause, yet the name itself can be traced to colonial sea captains in Virginia
There is one Family story of Spicers (who late married Bowen) who were raised by Native Americans. The Brehm name is German and they came to America around 1890. The Flowers and Slaughter names has been in Virginia at least since the Civil war.
My wife’s family heritage includes the family names of Lucado, Fentress, Bausell and Byrd to name a few. The Lucado ancestry includes some of the early French Huguenots in Virginia.
Other family names of interest are Strauss, Straus, Rutledge and Reamer.
