I am searching the surname Surface or Zerfass (Zerwass or Zirwess in Germany), which lived in the Virginia counties of Augusta, Rockingham, Rockbridge, Montgomery, and Giles, from about 1795 to 1860. They moved to these regions after arriving from Koblenz, Germany, and living in Pennsylvania, around 1750.
I am interested in finding any information on John Ulrick Surface or Zerfass, before he moved to Virginia. He was born about 1735, in Germany, and he married Mary Sider. They lived in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania, before 1795.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
