Funeral services for Mrs Martha Rebecca Smith Whip, widow of William Whip, who died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs Upton E Dawson, 16 East Street, Cumberland, were held Friday afternoon at the Bedford Valley Lutheran Church.
The pallbearers were T J Dawson, ET Zembower, Benjamin L Moreland, R H Rice, Charles Wright and W A Brant.

Morgan Buchanan Smith, a most highly respected citizen of this place died at his home near the Arandale on Monday, after a long illness. He was born in Cumberland Valley and was aged 70 years. His wife who was Miss Amanda Wertz, three sons and two daughters, Elwood G Smith of Pittsburgh, William, Oscar, Ada and Alice survive. Three brothers and one sister are also living: Reuben, Joseph and Fred Smith and Mrs Mary Hardman of Cumberland Valley.
Funeral services were conducted at his late residence Wednesday morning by his pastor, Rev H E Wiend. Interment was made in the Bedford Cemetery.

Mrs M B Smith
Mrs Amanda E Wertz Smith died at 9 o'clock Tuesday evening at her home near Bedford. Death was attributed to pneumonia. She was a daughter of William and Elizabeth Wertz and was born in Cumberland Valley, this county, on May 6, 1848. She was united in marriage to Mr M B Smith on September 25, 1865. Her husband together with the following children, survive: Oscar, William, Alice and Ada and one sister, Mrs Rachel Mock.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 2 PM at the hose, the Rev Harry L Saul officiating. Interment was made in the Bedford Cemetery.

The following obituary was provided by Elwood O. Smith in 1999,
Mrs. Amanda Smith

Mrs. Amanda E. Smith, widow of M. B. Smith, died at 9 o'clock Tuesday night
at her home near "The Grove," in her 79th year. The cause of death was
pneumonia but she had been in ill health for some time. She was a daughter of
William and Elizabeth WERTZ and was born in Cumberland Valley on May 6, 1848.
On September 15 1865, at the Lutheran parsonage, she was united in marriage
with Morgan Buchanan Smith, who passed away several years ago, as also did her
eldest son, Ellwood.
Surviving are four children; Misses Ada and Alice and William and Oscar
Smith, all residing on the home farm. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Rachel
MOCK, who had been residing in Cambria county, but arrived on Monday,
intending to make her home here.
Funeral services were held at the Smith home at two o'clock yesterday
afternoon, Rev. H. L. Saul officiating. Interment at this place. She was a
member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years.
