I am researching the family of Charles Hall Cessna son of Maj. John Cessna and his second wife Elizabeth Hall. Charles was born 10 Mar 1789 in Bedford County and died Aug 1829 in Blairsville,Indiana County, Pennsylvania. He married Katherine Smouse who was born 1795 Bedford County, Pennsylvania and died 1857. His descendants settled primarily in Western Pennsylvania (Indiana Co., Armstrong Co., Jefferson Co., and surrounding counties)and Eastern Ohio (Youngstown,Ohio).
His descendants have the following surnames: Cessna, McMillen, Simpson, Kirkpatrick, Jewart, Juart, McCall, Cribbs, Davis, Yount, Miller, Ogden, Shaffner, Nichols, Coy, Hickox, Tyger, Bowers, and many more.
My Cessna tree begins with Charles Hall Cessna's great grandfather Jean De Cessna who imigrated in 1718 to Pennsylvania and I have utilized the two books written by Howard Cessna: House of Cessna, 1903 and 1935 as a basis for my research along with many other records. In the generations prior to Maj John Cessna there are some differences from the "established" thoughts of the family relationships. Also researching the family line of Johan Nicholas Sutor who was born 4 Dec 1756 in Pferdsfeld, Germany and died 23 Mar 1831 in Havre de Grace, Harford, Maryland. His name in many records is Nicholas Suter. He married Mary A Schaffer b 1761 in Berks Co. Pennsylvania d. 17 Jun 1832 Havre De Grace. His descendants lived in the following areas: Havre De Grace, MD; Balitmore, MD; Washington,D.C.; Thomaston,GA; Syracuse,N Y; Lynchburg, Va; Zanesville, Ohio and Cincinnati, Ohio.
His descendants have the following surnames: Sutor, Suter, Webb, Poplar, Jacobs, Yeatman, Emerson, Ford, Ergood, Cook, Charshee, Pearson, Myers and many more.
Other families researched Gardner, Lutton, Wilkinson, McDonell, Cannon, Marks, Reed, Weidig and many others. This information will be added later.
Please keep in mind I am an amateur genealogist and I may have made some mistakes. This is still a work in progress and there will be updates as new information is added.
