Notes for Henry John Powell: Henry John's father is thought to have been: Henry Joseph Powell, son of Thomas and Hannah Powell, formerly Davies, who were married in the parish church of Kington, Herefordshire on the 10 march 1834. Thomas was described as 'a dealer in Cattle', Hannah was a widow. Henry Joseph was christened in the Parish church of Holmer, Herefordshire, on the 30 June 1834. Later on H.J. came to Birmingham and set up his own business manufacturing pumps at his premises in Lower Trinity Street, Digbeth. He lived in Solihull. There is no direct documentary evidence (as at April 1999) that he was Henry John's father, but several strong pieces of information tend to support that he was.
