The Last Will and Testament of Joel Valentine
In the name of God Amen. I, Joel Vallentine, of the Town of Nassau County of Rensselaer and State of New York, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of a sound and perfect mind [and?], memory, bless Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say,
First, I give and bequeath unto my wife Anna Vallentine three cows and eight sheep to be kept on the place for her own use and also her support during her life, and all the household furniture while she lives, and then said furniture [shall?] be divided equal among my five daughters except one bed, and bedding, which I give unto my son David.
And also I give and bequeath unto my three sons Daniel, Hose, and Sacket Vallentine each fifty dollars and the three cows and eight sheep to be divided equal between them at my wife's death, and the said fifty dollars is to be paid as quick after her decease as can be without interest. The furniture which I have given my five daughters and the residue of the household furniture when my wife has done with it is all that I give them.
And also I give and bequeath unto my sons John and David Vallentine the farm and all the utensils for to have and to hold, and the remainder of the stock to go to defray expenses. The said John and David must pay the rent and taxes yearly.
I hereby appoint my sons John and Daniel Vallentine executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all my former Wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of June in the Year of our Lord on thousand eight hundred and twenty eight.
