My sister, brothers and I are looking for information about the Sviatko family. Specifically information on ancestors and relatives in or from Slovakia. We now have about two hundred names in our tree. From Slovakia, the family has spread throughout the world. If you are a Sviatko or have a Sviatko connection, I feel we are somehow related.
The spelling of our name varies in different documents: Sviatko, Swiatko, Svjatko, and Szvjatko. Our origin is in Eastern Slovakia in the area of Tovarne. Michal 1775, Jan 1806, Michal 1848, Pavol 1879 were our grandfathers. Paul 1905 was our father.

It is unknown when Michal came to the United States. He settled around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his children. Paul came to Chicago in 1924, and married Mary Novak in 1925. From them, there are four more generations all over the United States.

Our brother Michael and his daughter Catherine Sviatko Cowart passed away in 1999. His wife Marie Bergstrom Sviatko followed in 2002 as did brother Paul's wife Margie Holland Cowart Sviatko. We pray for their souls.

Other family names, past and present, linked through marriage include: Aranda, Awe, Balint, Benedik, Benish, Bergstrom, Blake, Brendza, Browning, Budday, Clark, Cowart, Giasson, Hamilton, Harnecke, Hefner, Horvath, Jezierski, Key, Kormosh, Kretzchmar, Kuharsky, Kurbyun, Laferty, Launius, Madsen, Matta, Montelpasse, Mular, Nellessen, Nichols, Novak, Novey, Ondovscin, Palyova, Peterman, Rega, Simon, Sotak, Spirnak, Stecher, Sviatko, Swiatko, Thomason and Tkach.
