Our family is very interested in finding some of the missing links throughout the generations. There appears to be very little available on some of the avenues traveled through the ages.
Hopefully, someone will see a familar name and come to our rescue.

Most of the family has centered around the Northwestern section of North Carolina. Especially, Wilkes County, Caldwell County, Burke County, and Catawba County. Many are buried in this area. Word of mouth has it that some of the original ancestors arrived here through Philadelphia,Pa, Boston,Ma, and Charleston,SC.

We do know that the records for the NEWMAN/HOLBERT (mid 1800's) family was destroyed by a fire in the County Court House of Rutherfordton County /Tryon, NC area in all probability back in 1907. Rachel HOLBERT NEWMAN died at an early age and little can be recalled by the family.
On what little we have found it would appear that the HOLBERT family was likely related to the BOONE family through the STOVERS of Rutherfordton, NC.

The SETZER family was related to have sailed from Germany to Philadelphia(1750) and from there moved to Western NC(1759?). They lived in what is now Caldwell County,NC. Many of them moved to Morganton, Burke County, NC, where a great number are buried. The LOWDERMILK family came from the same general area. I found a record of a Cora LOWDERMILK marrying a Richard SWANSON, and would like to learn more. Also many WHISENANT family members married the SETZER and LOWDERMILK ancestors.

A Rev. William SWANSON (b cir.1775), thought to be a father of the clan was a Baptist Minister in the surrounding area. Sampson SWANSON is named as an earlier father. We have heard from some that the family may have come from Sweden and others say from Scotland.

In the Catawba County, Hickory, NC area were the DEAL, ISENHOUR, BOSTIAN, FOWLER families. A number of them are also listed as living in Lincoln County. At one time Lincoln County was a part of what is now Catawba County. It has been rumored that some of the ISENHOUR Clan moved to the Texas area and that there may be a relationship to the former President EIsenhour.
