Jacob Idol fought in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in Greensboro, N. C.
He served in the Revolutionary War in Capt. James Billingley's the NC Mounted Militia, enlisting for 3 months in 1781; in Capt. William Davis' Company for one month as private; and in Capt. (probably Sapp)Lopp's Company, Col. Smith's NC Regiment as a 1st Sgt.While serving under Capt. Billingsley he was captured by the Tories for a time, but escaped.
