Notes for (18G) Sir Henry (Hotspur) Percy: Both brothers, Henry and Thomas served with honour in the French wars of Edward III' both long enjoyed the favour of his weak successor Richard II, and by him were elevated to their earldons. Both deserted his falling fortunes, and combined to place the able and domineering Henry of Bolingbroke on his throne; and both, unable to enjdure the severe sway with which he wielded the rod of empire they had placed in his hand, endeavoured by open war to depose him, and perished in the bold attempt.
