The Niemiec/Erling/Swanson Family of Illinois

The Marek Niemiec family first appears in the 1910 U.S. Census for the city of Chicago, IL. According to the 1910 and 1920 census he came to the U.S. in 1989 or 1899 but he actually arrived on 30 July 1900. According to his petition for naturalization his home was originally Pilzno Poland which was part of Galicia Poland and he arrived in the U.S. July 1900. He married Anna Nowak July 1907. He died in 1921 at the age of 40 leaving his wife Anna and six children. The six children were Mary Ann, Joseph, Sophie, John, Edward, and Lillian. All of these children are now deceased. Marek and Anna Niemiec were my grandparents. Anna (Nowak)Niemiec remarried to a Josef Persak and had another child - Geraldine. At this time I have passenger manifests for Marek Niemiec and Anna Nowak but am trying to verify that these manifests are indeed the ones on which they are listed.

The Erling family first appears on the 1920 U.S. Census for the city of Chicago, IL. Otto Erling came from Sweden as did his wife, Marie. Their daugther Ruth married Joseph Niemiec, son of Marek Niemiec. Maria Petersdotter came to the U.S. on 23 April 1901. She was born on 2 February 1881 in Stubberud Älgå Värmland län Sweden. She had 7 brothers, two of which did immigrate to the U.S. When Maria was in the U.S. she changed her surname to Blomquist. Otto Erling immigrated to the U.S. 18 March 1911. He was born on 18 July 1874 in Söräker Hässjö Västernorrland län Sweden. His name in Sweden was Karl Johan Otto Jansson and when he became a naturalized citizen he changed his name to Otto Erling.

Joseph & Ruth (Erling) Niemiec's daugther married into the Swanson family.
