| I am researching the surnames of Maury, Fontaine, Knox, Gordon, West, Magruder, Brown, Fitzhugh, and Cocke. The families were orginally from France and Scotland, but some lived and met in Ireland. Many of them met and married in Virginia or Maryland. With the information provided by cousins, I have made up a family tree taking the Fontaine side back Jean de la Fontaine; born around 1500 in Provence de Main, France. The Gordon Family side is documented back to Samuel Gordon (1656-1732) in Kelton Parish, Kirkbrightshire, Scotland. I am putting the family tree that I have made up, using the Family Tree Maker software, as link to this website. Let me know if you find it.
