Born in Onslow County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Onslow County at age 22, April 19, 1862, for the war.  Reported present or accounted for in November, 1862 – April, 1864.  Captured at Fort Harrison, Virginia, September 30, 1864.  Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, October 5, 1864.  Paroled at Point Lookout on March 17, 1865.  Received at Boulware’s Wharf, James River, Virginia, March 19, 1865, for exchange.  Survived the war.  [NC pension records indicate he was wounded slightly in the hand and shoulder at Fort Harrison.]

Born in Onslow County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting at age 18, September 6, 1861.  Reported present during January – April, 1862.  Wounded in the left leg at or near Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, May 15, 1864.  Reported absent wounded during November, 1864 – February, 1865.

Resided in Lenoir County and enlisted in Craven County at age 26, June 6, 1861, for the war.  Present or accounted for on company muster rolls through December 8, 1863.  Reported as absent without leave from that date through October, 1864.

 Private Hosea Mashburn, Co. I, 66th Regiment, NC Infantry

(2nd Great Grandfather)

66th Regiment was formed from 8th Battalion NC Partisan Rangers and 13th Battalion NC Infantry.

Prior service: A Hosea Mashburn (Marshburn) held the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the 21st North Carolina Militia, 5th Brigade; assigned to the lower southwestern district of Onslow County.

Resided and enlisted in Onslow County June 30, 1863, for the war.   Recorded as present or accounted for on company muster rolls from September24, 1863 - October, 1864.  Captured at Sugar Loaf Mountain, near Fort Fisher, North Carolina, January 23, 1865.  Confined at Military Prison, Camp Hamilton, Virginia, January 25, 1865 and forwarded to Fort Delaware, Delaware, February 9, 1865.  Signed Oath of Allegiance, and was released at Fort Delaware, Delaware, June 19, 1865.

Sergeant Jesse W. Swinson, Co. H, 55th Regiment, NC Infantry

(Son of Zebedee Swinson, Jr.)

Born in Onslow County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Onslow County at age 29, March 10, 1862.  Mustered in as Sergeant.  Reported absent on wheat furlough in June, 1862.  Returned to duty on an unspecified date.  Captured at Williamsport, Maryland, July 14, 1863.  Hospitalized at Baltimore, Maryland, July 19, 1863, with anemia.  Transferred to hospital at Chester, Pennsylvania, July 21, 1863.  Paroled at Chester on or about September 12, 1863.  Received at City Point, Virginia, September 23, 1863.  Returned to duty on an unspecified date.  Killed at Wilderness, Virginia, May 5, 1864.

His death was reported by letter dated May 5, 1863, by Samuel Pagett.

Born in Onslow County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Onslow or Alexander County at age 31, March 27, 1862.  Reported absent on wheat furlough in June, 1862.  Hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia, June 6, 1863, with diarrhoea.  Returned to duty on July 17, 1863.  Reported absent sick on July 19, 1864.  Returned to duty prior to August 19, 1864, when he was wounded in the chin and throat at Globe Tavern, Virginia.  Hospitalized at Richmond.  Furloughed on August 27, 1864.  Returned to duty prior to November 1, 1864.  Captured at or near Sutherland’s Station, Virginia, April 2, 1865.  Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, April 5, 1865.  Released at Point Lookout on June 20, 1865, after signing Oath of Allegiance.

Born in Onslow County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Onslow County at age 23, May 6, 1861.  Mustered in as a Private and was promoted to Corporal on Dec 18, 1864.  Present or accounted for until hospitalized at Petersburg, Virginia, March 25, 1863, with a gunshot wound to the face.  Place and date wounded not reported.  Captured in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, April 3, 1865.
