Notes for Ernest Welch Fisk:
Ernest was a lifelong resident of Prosser, Wash. Of musical instuments he was known to play the accordian, the guitar, the violin, and the organ. After high school he served an apprenticeship to a watchmaker. He entered the Navy during WWI and was stationed mainly in the Phillipines where he contracted malaria and suffered its debilitating affects the remainder of his life. During this era the chief medication for this disease was quinine which the doctors willingly prescribed to reduce the suffering. However, upon his removal to the states the naval medical staff would not admit responsiblility for his addiction that had resulted. Even though Ernest was productively active in the base newspaper he was discharged dishonorably. This injustice was not rectified for over 60 years when he was finally awarded his honorable discharge papers While in the Phillipines he increased his knowledge of the Spanish language and became quite fluent. Ernest began a radio repair shop in Prosser that operated under his name until about 1997. He was a ham radio operator for many years. During WWII he taught morse code to enlisted men. He was a prolific artist. He created with the pen, water color, oils, charcoal. He sculpted in wood and built by hand a working grandfather clock all out of wood. He cut and polished stone of which his perfect spheres he was most proud. He retired from work at the Washington State Experimental farm where his many talents were always in demand. Disposition was by cremation. His marker is at Prosser Cemetery, Benton Co., WA.
