Anar Gibbs (daughter of Truman Gibbs and Anna Barnes) was born 8 May 1780 in Litchfield, Litchfield County, CT., and died 4 February 1860 in Oregon. She married John Clark III on 4 January 1801, son of John Clark II and Abigail Hutchinson.

They were never longer than seven years in one place, yet John never made a move without first consulting his wife. She would seek counsel of the Lord and was guided by the answer to her
prayers.
Pioneer church work took Grandfather Clark much from home, so the work of raising and caring for the family fell to little grandmother and the older boys. She must have done an excellent work, for all of
her six sons except Gibbs became preachers, and even he exhorted at times. They were largely self educated, pursuing their studies by the light of the open fire through the long winter evenings.
Grandma Clark could not sing but the children were all quite musical, several of them teaching singing school in pioneer communities,as well as leading the singing in their congregations.
Anar Gibbs Clark crossed the plains with her son John in the summer of 1854. They came to Oregon where her son Alvin and daughter Rosetta with their families had come two years previous
Born May 8th, 1780 this pioneer mother of 74 walked many miles of the way from Illinois to Oregon, never complaining of any hardships.
She was the loving companion of her granddaughter, Irene.
After a year and a half of helplessness grandma clark passed away Feb. 4th, 1860, and was buried in the Alford County graveyard situated at the junction of the Big and Little Muddy abut five miles south of
Halsey.
