The web is full of Pocahontas-Bolling (and therefore Baker) connections but the documentation is missing. I'm from James Bolling (ba 1756) which is found on many of these lists as the son of John and Elizabeth Blair, and on other lists as the son of Benjamin (1734). After many years of research I've found no proof of either, nor proof that he came from anyone else.

Good research demands documentation, not just copying from one list to another nor from one undocumented source to another. Other respectable old-line families demand this and we Bollings should settle for no less.

Good documentation begins with 1) what are your conclusion?, 2) what did you find to support your statement? (what does it say that made you draw that conclusion), and 3) where did you find the material? (references citing the book, census record, land record, wills, etc giving page numbers, locations, etc so that someone else can go directly to that reference, trace it back as you did and probably draw the same conclusion).

Scientific research is done basically the same way with repeated testings and many, many arguments, but we do go forward.
