I am searching the the New Jersey area for my SOUTHARD, SHINN, IMLAY roots. I am also looking in the New York City area (Bronx, Manhattan and Yankee Lake in Mamakating, Sullivan County) for my JOHNSTON roots.
My great great grandfather Henry Clay SOUTHARD was born June 1,1839 and died June 11, 1911. His parents were listed in the family bible as John SOUTHARD and Phebe SOUTHARD. I believe her maiden name to be MALISBURY.
Henry Clay SOUTHARD married Josephine IMLAY from Allentown, NJ October 9, 1860 in Allentown, NJ. Her parents were Thomas IMLAY and Margaret ERICKSON.
They had 11 children:
1. Margaret SOUTHARD born May 18, 1859 died May 7, 1882 in Burlington, NJ. She married Richard BUCKALEW.
2. Ella B. SOUTHARD born July 26, 1861 married Richard BEATTY September 17, 1881 in Jacobstown, NJ
3. Elmer E. SOUTHARD born April 16 1865 died April 16, 1865 in New Jersey.
4. Louisa SOUTHARD born March 24, 1866 married Frank BUCKALEW September 9, 1882 in Allentown, NJ.
5. Robert B. SOUTHARD born 1868 married Lydia PULLEN, then married Mary RANKIN April 26, 1888.
6. Addie L. SOUTHARD born August 19, 1870 died 1934 in New Egypt, NJ. Married Maurice SHANNON September 12, 1888 in Chesterfield Twp, NJ, then married Oscar CHAMBERLAIN
7. Thomas Imley SOUTHARD born December 29, 1872 died 1955 in Hamilton Twp., NJ. Married Maggie COFFAY June 27, 1896 in Camden, NJ.
8. George C. SOUTHARD (my Great Grandfather) born August 28, 1875 in Cream Ridge, NJ died 1960. Married Bertha SHINN August 28, 1900 in the Methodist Episcopal Church, Crosswicks, NJ.
9. Maud A. SOUTHARD born December 2 1877 died June 20, 1917 in Monmouth County, NJ. Married Gustave T. KIEHLE May 23, 1894 in New Hanover Towp, NJ.
10. Job SOUTHARD born 1880 died in Trenton, NJ. Married Liddie WILSON.
11. Albert Wainsfield SOUTHARD born July 14, 1886 died March 25, 1887.
I have copied the book SOUTHARD's in NY and NJ, written by Ralph K. Potter onto a GEDCOM and hope that someone will be able to help me update it.
I have also copied the IMLAY Family Book by Hugh and Nella IMLAY 1858 onto a GEDCOM. I only copied Peter IMLAY's son JOHN through to the end though. He had three other sons. William, Robert and Peter.
My JOHNSTON side is in New York and now I am looking for James JOHNSTON born in the United States and his wife Margaret O'Hare born in Ireland. They had a son (and perhaps others) named John James JOHNSTON born July 1868 in New York and died May 23, 1937 in Mamakating, New York. He married Mary Ann RAY daughter of Thomas RAY and Rose Ann REILLY. Mary Ann RAY was born April 1872 in New York and died January 23, 1941 in Bronx, NY. They had six children.
