Phillip enlisted in Company L , 4th Virginia Infantry Regiment , C. S. A. at Blacksburg on July 16, 1861 as a private . He was listed as sick on a muster roll dated 8-31-1861. Remarks on that roll were absent sick , sent home by the medical board . He died on September 10 , 1861 , at General Hospital in Lynchburg . He was seventeen .

OHN TABOR, JR.:
John enlisted in Company C , The Stone wall Brigade , 4th Regiment Va. Infantry in Newbern on March 17 , 1862. He was listed as absent from muster , sick and at General Hospital . Records show him admitted to General Hospital in Farmville , Va. on Sept. 5 1862 , and released to active duty on Nov. 6 . The complaint was listed as diarrhea . He returned to active duty . His pay was $11.00 per month . John could sign his own name , for on the 22nd of December 1862, near Port Royal , Va. , he signed a pay voucher for six months pay ; $66.00 . He served under Capt. Bosang . On May 3 1863 he was wounded at the battle of Chancellorsville . He had a leg amputated as a result of his wound , and died due to gangrene on July 23 , 1863 , in General Hospital No. 1 Richmond , Va. The regimental history of the 4th Va. Infantry lists John as being buried in Hollywood Cemetery , Richmond . A claim was filed on behalf of his wife , Lucinda for benefits . She received $94.36 . According to a description of him on a pay voucher he was 6' tall , had blue eyes , light hair , and fair complexion .

Phillip Tabor was also a member of the 4th Infantry . He enlisted in Company L at Blacksburg on July 16 , 1861 , five days before the first battle of Bull Run , though it appears that his company didn't arrive in camp till August so he probably wasn't in that battle . The muster roll for 8-31-1861 lists him as sick , and remarks were absent sick , sent home by the medical board . He never made it home . Phillip died on September 10 , 1861 , at General Hospital in Lynchburg . He was seventeen .

There were thirteen Tabor men in the 16TH Virginia Cavalry during the war , most of them enlisted on the same date ; Oct. 9 1862. They are listed below :

Alexander W. Tabor enlisted Company I , 16th Cavalry , 6-4 1864 in Tazewell County . He was listed as absent till November of 1864 , sick . He appears on a list of P. O. W. S that signed the parole papers that all Confederate soldiers were required to sign at the end of the war agreeing to abide by the law and not to take up arms against the government . He signed the Parole on May 15 , 1865 at Charleston Wa. The description of him then was 18 years old , height 5' 8" , dark complexion , grey eyes , and black hair .

Andrew J. Tabor enlisted in Tazewell co. Va. Oct. 9 1862 Sergent, Co. F, 16 Cav. . He was killed in action at Moorfield , Va. Aug. 7 , 1864 .

Elbert A. Tabor enlisted at Tazwell Co. Va. Oct. 9 , 1862 , private , Co. F , 16 Va. Cav. He was in the C. S. A. General Hospital from 8-28-63 to 9-9-63 for (illegible , brouch chro ? ) . He was killed in action on February. 15 1864 , probably in Wayne Co. Va.

George W. Tabor , Private Co. I , 16th Va. Cav. , Enlisted 1-3-1863 , was transferred to Co. H , 45th Va. Inf. by way of exchange for John C. Lane on 3-21-1864 . He was in Charlottesville Hospital on 7-25-1864 . Listed as deserted on 5-4-1865 ( Lee had already surrendered by then at Appomattox ) and took the amnesty oath on that day . Resident of Mcdowell Co. WV. , age 21 , 5'8" tall , grey eyes , fair complexion .

Henry Jefferson Tabor enlisted Co. J , 16 Va. Cav. , private , Oct. 9 1862 in Tazewell . He was captured at Wayne Co. Va. on February. 15 , 1864 . He appears on a list of prisoners that arrived at the Louisville , Ky. Military Prison from February. 20 to 25 of 1864 . Henry was transferred to to Fort Delaware , Del. on March 7 1864 . He was reported dead on March 20 , 1864 . The cause was given as inflammation of the brain .Location of his grave given as on the Jersey coast opposite the prison .

James Tabor enlisted in Tazwell , Company F , 16 Va. Cav. Oct. 9 1862 , PVT. He was captured in Tazewell on May 9 , 1864 , and sent to Camp Chase , Ohio and transferred to Point Lookout on 2-12-1865. He was paroled on February. 12 1865 . James was admitted to Chimbrazo Hospital in Richmond for debility February. 21 1865 , remarks "paroled prisoner" .He stayed thirty days . He signed the general parole papers on June 22, 1865 . His description was ; age 22 , 6' tall , dark complexion , Black eyes , black hair .

James Russel Tabor enlisted Oct. 9 1862 , Tazwell , Co. F , 16 Va. Cav. , PVT. . He was listed as AWOL and as deserted on Sept. 28 , 1864 and dropped from the company rolls . He signed the federal parole on June 23 , 1865 . Age was 30 , 5' 9" tall, complexion light , blue eyes , sandy hair .

John Tabor , private , enlisted in Co. J , 16th Va. Cav. on 1-20-1863 , in Tazewell county .He was captured at Gettysburg on July 1 , 1863 , and was in U. S. A. Hospital on July 25 with debilities . He was transferred to West Bldg. U. S. A. General Hospital , Baltimore , Md. John was paroled there on September 25 , 1863 . He was admitted to Chimbrazo Hospital , Richmond on 9-28-1863 for rheumatism , and furloughed for 20 days on October 10 . John was listed as absent on muster rolls on 10-31-1864 and deserted on the next muster , but was listed on other muster rolls as "absent on parole of Honor " . He signed the amnesty papers at the end of the war on 6-24-1865 . Description ; age 39 , 6' tall , fair complexion , blue eyes , dark hair .

Samuel Flummer Tabor enlisted in Tazwell Oct . 9 1862 , PVT. Co. J , 16 Cav. He signed parole papers on June 23 1865 . Age 44 , 5' 6" tall , dark complexion , blue eyes , auburn hair .

Stephen Harrison Tabor enlisted Oct. 9 1862 , Tazwell , Co. I , 16 Va. Cav. He was listed on rolls as absent and wounded from Aug. 5 1864 to Dec. 31 , 1864 . Paroled on May 4 , 1865 . Age 35 on one record , 55 on another , 5'7" tall , dark complexion , grey eyes , dark hair .

William J. Tabor enlisted in Co. I , 16th Va. Cav. at Tazewell on 10-9-1862 . AWOL on 10-31-1864 , present and in arrest 12-31-1864 . Description age 34 , dark complexion , 5'5" tall , auburn hair .
