ANCY JANE SIMS:
[Alice Tackett's Family History 20010122.FTW]

Nancy is a niece of the William Perry Sims in which the Post Office of Sims, Arkansas got it's name. Nancy' father Jordan who is William Perry' brother, I hear say was of the good seed. The story say's Jordan was a good kind hearted person that did what he could to help out those in need. Nancy was put in an insane asylum about 1896 for trying to throw her new born baby named Melvin in the fire. Nancy's daughter in-law Bessie said she thinks Nancy was in Oklahoma some where because she remembered going to visit her with Nancy' son Omer Clark Tackett, Bessie thought the place looked like a hospital. Nancy was already pregnant at the time she was committed but Reuben didn't know, Bessie thinks that Nancy's doctor adopted the baby because he liked Nancy so much. Reuben had to leave the children with family and friends not too long after losing Nancy to the asylum because he needed to look for work to take care of them.

Reuben was thought to be born in Texas because on a Census Record for his son Omer, Omer say's his father was born in Texas. He is also said to be full blood Cherokee Indian. Stories I've heard about Reuben suggest that he was too proud and would not ask for any help from the government, also the government along with most white people at that time took advantage of the Indians and I think this is the reason he changed his Indian name to the Tackett Spelling, I've heard that Reuben did not want any one to know he was Indian. I also heard that Nancy's father did not want her to marry Reuben because he was Indian. We think Reuben' dad's name is Jack W. Tackett and probably died in Parker County, Texas because he was supposed to have owned a bank there, but I have not found any proof. Reuben and Nancy lived in Van Buren, Arkansas in 1891 because that is where my grandfather Omer Clark was born who is they're fourth child. Reuben and Nancy lived in Weatherford, Parker County, Texas in 1896 because that is where their last child was born who is Melvin. Reuben had Nancy committed to some kind of insane asylum in 1896 for trying to throw Melvin in the fire when he was only a few months old. I think my great grandmother Nancy was suffering from what we call Post Partum Depression (this is common after child birth). We think Nancy is buried in Texas, Arkansas or Oklahoma because these states are where Reuben would have taken her to because he was very poor and didn't have adequate transportation to travel very far. I think he would have taken her some where in Texas since that's where they were living at the time and considering that they were very poor and had to travel by a horse drawn wagon makes it seem to be more practical to be in Texas. Bessie thinks She is in Oklahoma because she remembers going to visit her with Nancy' son Omer and that also makes since because that is where most of Nancy's family moved to. He might have taken her to get help from some kind of Indian agency. Reuben worked in the coal mines in Krebs, Oklahoma for sixteen year's and the rail road after losing Nancy to the asylum, he had to leave the children with family and friends while he worked because he didn't have the transportation to travel so far to see the children and didn't have anybody close enough to his work to take care of them. The children were split up between family and friends. Bessie said that she remembers Omer saying that his uncle Tom Morgan raised him after he took him from Reubens Indian friend. I heard that when Reuben tried to take Omer with him that the Indian man refused to let Omer go, so Reuben went to get help from his brother-in-law or uncle who's name is Tom Morgan. Tom told the man that if he didn't give Omer to Reuben right then he was going to shoot him, so the man let Omer go. Omer must not have lived with Omer very long if at all after that. Bessie remembers Omer trying to find his brothers and sister after he and Bessie got married, he found Melvin and Melvin remembered a man that said he knew where Lillie was. She was married to a man with the last name to be Benson or Vincent. I found a Johnny Lee Vincent married to a Lillie Lucinda in the same area that Omer found her, so I believe this to be her and also my aunt Joyce said that her mother Bessie told her that Lillie's married name was Vincent. The Benson surname was found on Omer Clark Tackett's Cemetery Records; Omer's son Clifford told the funeral director that, that was Lilie's married name but my aunt Joyce say's he was wrong and I believe her. Reuben was thought to have died from Black Lung Disease from working in the coal mines. Reuben would take Omer to work with him once in awhile, Omer was only about 6 year's old. The Woodsman Association buried their son Ervin, I don't know which of the three state's that was in , I think it would probably have been in Oklahoma or Arkansas. I just found a marriage record for a Reuben B. Tackett age 35 and Sarah Vaughn age 44 recorded in the McAlester County Seat Court House, Choctaw Indian Territory, Oklahoma dated on November 24, 1900 and that they were living in Krebs, Oklahoma. I will have to do some more research to know weather this is the same Reuben. My grand father Omer was 9 year's old when Reuben married Sarah, Bessie never mentioned her in stories, so that makes me think that Omer didn't live with them, he must have stayed with Tom Morgan until he was grown. I don't know who was raising their other children but I've heard that some of them after getting the children moved away and didn't let Reuben know their where abouts, also some of the people that started out taking care of these children gave them to other people. I know this to be true because Omer had never heard of the people that had Melvin and Lillie and as far as I know Omer never found his other brothers and sister. There was also a man that was a very good friend of Reubens by the name of Tanny Walker. Tom Morgan would probably be married to one of Nancy Sims or Reuben Tackett's sister's
