The Tackett - Turner Family Home PageUpdated September 6, 2000 | |
| We are searching for the birthplace of John Wesley Tackett, born in 1849, either in Northern Mississippi or Northern Alabama. Some of his children believed he was born in Florence, Alabama but we haven't been able to confirm this. His father was believed to have been named John (or Johns)Tackett and is believed to have served in the Northern Alabama Confederate Cavalry, Moreland's Brigade, Co. D. His older brother ,named Enoch Tackett was also believed to have served in the same Co. D. Family legend has Enoch Tackett being taken prisoner by the Federal forces and that he died while their prisoner. We have been trying to confirm these facts, but are still waiting for answers from the National Archives. We are interested in tracing this family line back as far as we can. There are many Tacketts listed but we can't determine the origin of the John Wesley Tackett line. John Wesley Tackett brought his family to Texas from Iuka, Mississippi prior to 1880, settled in Delta County then later moved the family to Parker County, Weatherford, Texas I would appreciate any information on the above and will share any information I have. |
