Deceased Name: Walter Dresser
BATTLEBORO -- Walter Dresser was born July 3, 1928, and departed this life to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the age of 77.

He was the second son of the late Frank Charles Dresser and the late Nettie Mae Moses Dresser Martin of Appomattox, VA, he was also the step son of Dottridge Martin. He was a dedicated and devoted member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where he readily served as the church organist for thirty years. He loved music so much t hat not only did he play at St. John's he also played the organ for Christ Church Episcipal, St. Andrews and other area churches. That's when he wasn't working for Allen Organ at Rocky Mount Instruments. Walter, who co-composed The VMI Tribute, was a graduate of VMI: class of 1950-A. His graduate education in musicology at the Peabody Conservatory of Music was cut short by the death of his loving father.

As the former owner and operator of Bressler's 33 Flavors in Tarrytown Mall he was a beloved figure in our community. How couldn't he be when he could do anything, even if it meant installing an organ in an aircraft carrier or playing the organ while he simultaneously walked his youngest daughter down the asile?

He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Charlotte B. Dresser. He also leaves behind three daughters, Janette Boice Dresser of Battleboro, Mary Moses Dresser Taffet and husband, Steve of Syracuse, NY and Susan Yancey Dresser Barritt and husband, Tom of Cary, NC. Walter also leaves behnd his legacy in his five grandchildren, Samuel Pride III and Traevonne Charles Pride, Michael David Taffet, Kristen Sommer Barritt and Sean Thomas Barritt. He also leaves behind many friends who loved him for his kind heart his generous spirit and his creative mind.

He was preceded in death by his only son, David Charles Dresser, older brother, Frank Thomas Dresser, his half sister, Pauline Polkinhorne, his half brother, Adolphe Dresser and infant granddaughter, Amanda Dresser.

Visitation will be held Monday December 19, 2005 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Bowling Funeral Home.

Please send contributions payable to St. John's Episcopal Church, address: Walter Dresser Educational Fund c/o St. John's Episcopal Church, P.O. box 577, Battleboro, N.C. 27809. Thank you.
